natural dye research
In my work but also in my own health I have experienced the negative side effects of synthetic dyes and fabrics and as a result I've researched this subject intensively. This knowledge led me to experiment with natural dye on natural fabrics (both organic and antique). All experiments are documented and archived and have been a big inspiration for my choice of colors in my design work. Next project: creating my own printing paste for non-toxic printed textiles!

Alongside my work as a surface pattern designer I have worked as an in-house and freelance graphic designer and illustrator for brands and individuals.
Chromatic Color Calendar 2024
This project is part of my research on the role of color in design. For this product I've focussed on color as a tool, mainly for people with dyscalculia. The chromatic color mixing scales in this calendar show the passage of time. Each color is an individual day but from a distance the month looks like a gradient to create a more soothing look (because a line-grid filled with numbers can cause stress for a person with dyscalculia). Each month is a different chromatic color scale, carefully selected after an extensive research on complementary color mixing. The colors assist the numbers, helping to remember dates and events (April 1st is a bright lavender purple, May 1st is a citron yellow: "On the purple days I have a holiday, on the yellow days I go back to school").
